Why Your Quilt Shop Should Be Using Canva

Why Your Quilt Shop Should Be Using Canva

If you're running a quilt shop, you're probably wearing approximately 47 hats already. Marketing director, buyer, customer service, event planner, social media manager... and occasionally, IT department.

So when it comes to creating graphics, you need something that is easy, affordable, and doesn't require a degree in graphic design.

That's where Canva comes in.

1. It's Affordable

You don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on expensive design software just to make a Facebook graphic or a class flyer.

Canva has a free version that is surprisingly capable, and Canva Pro adds even more features if you need them.

For a small quilt shop, that's a pretty easy price point to justify, especially when you're using it for everything from social media graphics to newsletters, event flyers, signs, and more.

Today's task: If you're not already using Canva, create a free account and start playing around. You don't have to commit to Pro on day one.

2. It's Actually Easy to Use

This might be my favorite thing about Canva.

It's intuitive.

You can start with a blank design, pick a template, drop in your photos, change your fonts and colors, and you're off and running.

You don't need to understand layers, pixels, or what half the buttons in Photoshop do. Canva is built for people who need to get the thing made.

And for a busy quilt shop owner, that's exactly what we want.

Need a class flyer? Canva.

Need an Instagram graphic? Canva.

Need a sale sign? Canva.

Need a last-minute graphic because someone just told you about an event happening Saturday? Definitely Canva.

3. Your Team Can Actually Share Designs

This is a big one if more than one person helps with your shop's marketing.

Instead of emailing files back and forth or wondering which version of the graphic is the actual final version, you can share Canva designs and collaborate directly.

You can have one person create the template, another person update the dates and details, and someone else make the final edits.

You can also create templates for recurring things like:

  • New fabric arrivals
  • Classes
  • Sales
  • Events
  • Social media posts
  • Newsletter graphics

That means you're not reinventing the wheel every time you need a graphic.

Make It Easy on Yourself

Your quilt shop doesn't need a complicated design system. You need a tool that your team can actually use, that doesn't cost a fortune, and that makes it easier to create consistent, professional-looking marketing.

That's why Canva is one of the first tools I'd recommend to just about any quilt shop.

If you're not using it yet, give it a try.

And if you are using it, take a few minutes to organize your designs and create a handful of templates. Future You will be very happy you did.
